Well Done Spy Yarn
This movie is 78 years old. Good looking, French Marie is kidnapped by a ship's Captain when she delivers a telegram. He dumps her at a port in South America with no money or passport. Marie makes her way to Panama hoping to find a way to get back home to France. She gets a job singing in a night club and runs into lots of spies including Spencer Tracy. The movie entertained and held my interest. It makes searching this site well worth while. I do wish the print was a bit sharper.

Who wants to hear it?
With my computer volume on full blast, my new speaker volume on full blast, and the movie volume on full blast, I still could barely hear the conversation. Only Tracy's voice came out full. I liked the premise of the film and the girl was very cute. Being of Canadian French extraction, I really wanted to see this film but since I couldn't hear it, I turned it off early. Hope you can fix the volume in the future. I'll come back to it sometime and try again.

Boring?
You folks must expect a superbowl event or some such silliness. You've exposed your own short attention spans and over all dopiness. This was a great flick. The only problem was they gave Reinhardt away half way through it and anyone could have guessed he was the villain. Tenoki could also have been the villain, but this was made before Japanese involvement was well known in WWII to the public at large. Had it been made just a few years later Tenoki would have been part of the conspiracy and one of the main villains without any doubt whatsoever.
To bad we didn't get to see a lot more of Ketti Gallian, Marie in this one. Man, was she hot or what? To bad she died at the young age of 60 which was considered old in 1972 when she died.
The real story was Marie Galante being kidnapped and left to rot half way around the world and the way she was used by these diabolical fiends.

Who would have thought a spy movie could be so boring? This movie was dreadfully dull.
The characters were boring and uninteresting, save the one played by Spencer Tracy. His character was irritating.
By the time the target of the evil spies became known, I no longer cared if they were caught, or succeeded in their dastardly plan. Had the film been a bit longer, I might have begun rooting for the bad guys.
On the plus side, it was better than having a kidney stone, if only slightly so.
Inasmuch as I cannot give it less than one star, nor take stars from it, I give it one star.

pulp fiction
there are some missing portions but they don't ruin the film...
this was pretty entertaining with most of the best parts in the bar scenes. I never liked Spencer Tracy as he was a blowhard in all of his films but it works in this one. I suspect he was playing himself.
There's some very overt racisms in this film which was typical of the period in which it was made. This was before the Japanese were enemies but the obvious reference to bigotry toward Germans is not the worst of it. Still, if you can withstand the racism and watch the bar scenes (very understated parts) then you may find it is worth the time. It could have been a very good film without the racism.

FUN Movie
This movie actually kept my attention all the way through, trying to solve it before the end.
Everyone is a spy, but Marie, and she is a spy that did not have a clue she was a spy.
You have to like old movies to really enjoy this one.
Ned Sparks is a blast with that cynical attitude of his, cartoonist used his persona in many cartoon characters, such as the lion in the old T.V. cartoon : Sydney the Elephant or something like that.
also in old Warner Brothers cartoons of this same time period of this film.
it is a very fun movie to watch.
i give it a 4 star rating for the entertainment value.

Ho-hum
There have been good spy movies involving the Panama Canal. Across the Pacific and Charlie Chan in Panama come to mind. This isn't one of them.
I downloaded the 423MB WMV file. Video is tolerable with fuzzy images that pixelate during motion. The audio is OK.
